How do I get a rat out of my car?

Question: There is a rat in my car. How do I get it out? I'm scared to death of mice and rats.

Answer: First, let's be clear: that rat doesn't want to be in your car either and is looking for a way to get out. Perhaps you can help the rat leave the car (interior I assume) by leaving the doors open for a while (and not damage the battery).

A rat is a large animal and there are no easy or comfortable places for it to fit inside of a car, so it will be looking for a way out. This is likely to occur at night when the rat has a greater sense of security. Snap traps for rats are large and will not fit easily under seats or in tight locations, but you can try. Certainly snap traps can be used in open areas inside the car.
