Will a high-performance vapor barrier ward off termites?

Question: I live in a high-humidity area (southeast Arkansas) and wanted to know if adding a vapor barrier in a crawl space area will help ward off termites. Is that the sort of thing a termite and pest control tech could install?

Answer: Vapor barriers are always valuable in limiting the moisture in wood above crawl spaces. Vapor barriers can help prevent several problems, like wood decay fungi (wood rot); however, these barriers will not prevent termites.

Contact us to schedule a free termite inspection and ask for a moisture control inspection of your home as well. A highly trained Orkin Termite inspector will be happy to take care of moisture issues in your home. Remember, there are more than termites that can cause damage to wood.
